Checkout the big blue bone tuskie caught on todays 1/2 day charter – very rare in our part of the world and weighing in at 9kg is a real trophy. Awesome looking fish, hard fighting and great eating well done Frank!!!! Well it’s been a while since a report but we had an ordinary start to the year with the weather and then a major rebuild to be done on the motor, and as always the time frame blew out however the job got done right. When it’s due to be done you have to do it to prevent any major damage. And now after the gearbox rebuild last year and the engine this year everything is in perfect order ready for the next decade of fishing adventure’s. The fishing over the past few months has overall been quite good. Our pelagic season was ok but not the same heights as the past couple of summers, but the bottom fishing was better than it usually is so it made up for it. Now it’s that time of year when our focus changes from the summer pelagics’ to the winter reefies. School mackerel are still hanging around but pearl perch (plenty over 50cm), sweetlip and tusk fish have been the most active over the past 2 weeks. Though the water temps are still quite high for this time of year it won’t be long until we start seeing some big snapper come through. Good numbers of squire have been boated in the past week along with the odd cobia and plenty of good size moses perch. Amberjack, kingfish, jew fish and some big cod are the other species we will catch over the next 4 months so bring it on!!!

The last few days have been very busy and the pelagics have been giving us a good fight. We have caught some mahi mahi, wahoo and cobia from the surface and squire, maori cod, spangled emperor, red throat, tusk fish and moses perch off the bottom.
There was also some big cod, coronation trout, spanish mackerel, amberjack, maori cod, red throat, spangled emperor to name a few.
And this summer snapper caught on a half day charter to the Caloundra 12nm. Big fish for this time of year and fought hard in the shallow water, well done Sam! It’s been hot and steamy the past week, good for the pelagic fishing but not so much for the crew. Plenty of water, a bit of shade under the awning and Lots of sunscreen got us through and with the pelagics like mahi mahi, tuna and mackerel on the bite it was worth putting up with.
Over the past week we have had mainly full day charters with the top end of the banks being the place to be. You did have to get out early though with the northerlies picking up strength in the late morning. Species caught were red throat emperor, maori cod, amberjack, hussar, moses perch, trevally, fusilier, coronation trout, gold spot wrasse and squire from the bottom and mahi mahi, Spanish mackerel, cobia and mack tuna from the surface – The variety the sunshine coast reef fishing is renowned for.
In closer murphy’s reef provided cobia, maori cod, squire, grey morwong, moses perch, tusk fish, spotted mackerel and some smaller mahi mahi while the Caloundra 9nm and 12nm produced mackerel, cobia, sweetlip, tusk fish, moses perch, hussar, pearl perch, squire, maori cod and estuary cod.

It will be a bit windy for the next couple of days and after a very busy fortnight we are due for a day off. Hopefully we will get back out Saturday but we will have to wait and see. Here are some pics from the last few days, we are starting to see some of our exotic summer species – coronation trout, red emperor, blue barred parrot fish & red throat emperor are being boated as well as mack tuna from the troll gear. There are still a few snapper hanging around, the size are ok 40-70cm but numbers are fading. Lots of maori cod and moses perch around at the moment and some iron jaw job fish trevally and amberjack from the full days out on the banks. Won’t be long now and the mackerel will show up. Can’t wait!
The beginnning of the school holidays was dissapointing with strong south easterlies and a big southerly swell but this week has been the opposite – we have had very little swell and apart from the afternoon storms it has been superb! The next few days look similar and the fishing has been pretty good too.We have caught amberjack, king fish, cobia as well as snapper, jewfish, pearlies, tusk fish, moses perch, maori cod and the odd coronation trout from the full days. It has been a mixed couple of weeks on the weather front, lots of unseasonal northerly wind plus rain at times and even earthquakes? But we have seen some pleasant days’ in between as well as some warm sunshine, and have been doing a mixture of ½, ¾ and full day charters. Some reefs have been fishing reasonably well and others have been a little quite. The inner reef belt covering places like the gneerings, Murphy’s, Caloundra 9nm and 12nm reefs are producing some quality big fish but it’s only for a short period on dawn and dusk. Out wider on the banks and Caloundra wide we are getting big numbers of fish but the size is a little smaller which is a bit unusual but that should all change with the lead up to Saturdays’ full moon.

Hi all
Some fantastic conditions for offshore anglers over the past week produced some fantastic fish. The big snapper were very active early last week before the warm weather came through over Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Fish up to 6kg/78cm were boated with best results coming an hour either side of dusk and dawn. These were caught on Tuesdays’ afternoon session from Murphys reef in just 22m of water.
The warmer days over the weekend still seen snapper chewing but the size was a bit smaller around 50cm but some of our other winter target species didn’t seem to mind – we caught plenty of big pearl perch to 60cm and quality tusk fish to 3kg along with moses perch, gold spot wrasse, fusilier, hussar, coral bream, trevally and some hard fighting amberjack. The photo below is from Saturdays’ full day trip to the banks and shows off the biggest pearly from the day.
The next shows regulars Dale and Gary with some nice pearlies and squire around the 50cm perfect table fish and caught on soft plastics and light gear made for a bit of sport as well. Well done boys!
A bit lumpy offshore for the next couple of days’ things look to settle Thursday with Friday and the weekend looking superb. Friday is our next trip and it’s a full day to the Barwon Banks chasing those big snapper, pearl perch and whatever else we can get our hooks into, there is still spots available so if you would like to join in on the action give us a call or head over to our contacts page and send us an email.

Some very cold weather over recent weeks’ has seen the water temps drop and with that the snapper fishing has been hot. All reefs have been fishing well, whether we are in close on a ½ day or out wide on a full day the fish have been chewing. As always the weather is a factor and the calmer days’ have produced some great fish. Along with the snapper there have some big tusk fish and pearl perch as well as moses perch, sweetlip, gold spot wrasse, fusilier, spangled emperor, maori cod and the odd cobia caught. The picture below shows snapper to 6kg.
The next picture shows some of the tusk fish that are getting caught. Up to 3.5kg and 60cm, great for this area. They are as good to eat as they are to look at.
